About

bio

Stefania Tansini is one of the most appreciated dancers and choreographers of italian contemporary dance in recent years. Winner of several prizes including the Ubu 2022 Award as Best Performer Under35, she develops her choreographic research from a material and sensory investigation of the body as a place of transfiguration and tension, between form and decay, control and abandonment, in constant dialogue between fullness and emptiness. She is supported by Fondazione Teatro Grande in Brescia for 2022-2024 and by MosaicoDanza/Interplay for 2024-2025. She currently collaborates with Cindy Van Acker, Motus, Silvia Rampelli and Raffaella Giordano.

She graduated in 2014 as a dancer from the Civica Scuola di Teatro Paolo Grassi in Milan. With her first piece La Grazia del Terribile, Tansini won the award for best performer in the Experimenta 2019 competition and the Rete Critica Prize 2021. She won the DNA Appunti Coreografici 2020 call for My Body (solo version) and the Toscana Terra Accogliente 2020 call for My Body (trio version). In 2022, she was awarded the UBU Prize as Best Under 35 Actress/Performer. Her latest solo project is L’ombelico dei limbi (2024).
Dal 2019 ha presentato il suo lavoro in numerosi festival, tra cui Romaeuropa Festival, FOG Festival (Milano), Santarcangelo Festival, Gender Bender Festival (Bologna), La Democrazia del Corpo Festival (Firenze), Interplay Festival (Torino), Bolzano Danza ed Emergentia Festival (Ginevra).

Her choreographic research emerges from a material and sensory investigation of the body as a site of transfiguration and tension,
between form and decay, control and letting go, precision and release. In her works, she explores the body as a stratified and unstable territory, traversed by movement that sinks, opens, and brings presence into being. She constantly navigate between fullness and emptiness. She strip away narratives and representations in favour of a constant tension that allows presence to be transfigured.

She currently collaborates with Motus, Silvia Rampelli, Cindy Van Acker, and with Raffaella Giordano on a re-interpretation of Giordano’s iconic solo Tu non mi perderai mai, originally created for Sosta Palmizi, which premiered in March at FOG Festival in Milan and nominated as a finalist for the UBU Award for Best Dance Performance 2025.
