Tu non mi perderai mai

The solo Tu non mi perderai mai, danced and choreographed by Raffaella Giordano, premiered in Milan in 2005 at the invitation of Umberto Angelini for the Uovo Performing Arts Festival. Today, Raffaella presents its reconstruction through a long and meticulous process of transmission, entrusting it to the young choreographer and author Stefania Tansini. A challenge lived with gratitude at the heart of a love for dance—an intense love in which to delve deeply into the substance of writing, the first guide along the path.

Twenty years on, the transmission of Tu non mi perderai mai from Raffaella Giordano to Stefania Tansini is set to generate anticipation. A key figure of the “historical” contemporary scene (Carolyn Carlson, Pina Bausch, Sosta Palmizi), and still an tireless instigator of sensitive choreographic encounters, Giordano entrusts a special artist with the re-interpretation of one of her most mysterious and elusive solos.
Freely inspired by the Song of Songs, Tu non mi perderai mai is the work that most closely aligns with the intimate and “sacred” simplicity of Tansini. At stake is the delicate passage of testimony from one body to another, and above all the indication of a path that may—and indeed must—deviate, with unforeseen outcomes.
In the Song of Songs, Giordano listened closely to the Hebrew text, achieving hypnotic results. It is impossible to take one’s eyes away from her minimalist, slow, and restrained actions; from arms forming perfect curves, brushing the ground as if it were the skin of the beloved… yet the subtle erotic call remains unanswered. Presence/absence in a desert of fragmented gestures, the author/dancer lingers between a life not yet lived and a desire already faded.
Thus the piece could be reborn with that melancholic estrangement and its many restrained tensions as embodied by Tansini. Here, the message will certainly become a medium of sensorial tenderness and painful challenges, all still to be discovered.
